Our History

Geering Up is where innovation meets education, and where the engineers and scientists of tomorrow first discover their passions. Follow along our journey from a single planted seed of an idea to today, our history is a chronicle of growth, inclusion, and inspiration that has made Geering Up a pillar of the UBC community.

It all began in 1995. With the encouragement of Dr. Ian Gartshore, Christine Yeung, a dedicated UBC Mechanical Engineering student, launched Geering Up with a vision to bring STEM out of the laboratories and into the lives of British Columbia‘s youth. As we navigate through the years, you’ll encounter the pioneering moments that helped us expand our reach: from our first high school program to the core Indigenous Outreach and All Girls’ initiatives, we have advanced our goal of accessible and exciting STEM education at every step.

Dive into our past and explore the milestones that define our legacy. We are proud of where we’ve been and even more excited about where we are going.
